Kalibo Travel Guide, Philippines

The city of Kalibo happens to be the capital city for the Aklan Province. It is situated somewhere in the north western region of Panay Islands in the country of Philippines. The mother of every possible Philippine festival is Ati - Atihan Festival and this famous festival is held every year in the city of Kalibo itself. Locals as well as people from the rest of the country hit the city during the month of January to attend the wildest festival ever which is organized in the country of Philippines.

The name of the city Kalibo was inspired from the word sangka libo (which means one thousand in English Language) which was actually the number of participants who attended the festival Ati - Atihan. The city of Kalibo was spelled as Calivo in its early years but after the implementation of Filipino as local language the spelling was changed to Kalibo.

The city of Kalibo isn’t very huge in terms of area of expansion and hence it has been divided into 16 barangays only where the word barangay means a village or district in local Filipino language. As per the census of year 2000 the population for the city of Kalibo was around 63000 inhabitants that used to live in around 13000 houses.

The economy of Kalibo has grown immensely in last few years and hence it is expected that the population for the city of Kalibo will surely increase to new heights very soon but as of now the population growth rate is steady. A huge part of the Kalibo economy depends on agriculture with coconut and rice being the major products which are regularly harvested by the farmers of Kalibo. Another niche which contributes heavily into the economy of Kalibo is the Pina Cloth Industry. The cloth industry has become international in the city of Kalibo with a major portion of the cloth being exported to other countries like North America and Europe.

By air the city of Kalibo is around 1 hour away from the city of Manila. If you want to enjoy ship rides then you can visit the city of Kalibo by ship from the city of Manila and this should take around a days time. The Kalibo Airport is around 10 min. away from the center of the city thus it becomes easier for the tourists to use air transport for traveling purposes.
