Daet Sights and Landmarks Guide, Philippines

The town of Daet has a number of places of interests that vary from the past familiar sights, innate attractive spots and the synthetic structure for sacred celebrations. Daet’s tourist attractions are classified into several categories such as historical landmarks, religious sites, natural and scenic spots and man-made attractions.

Historical Landmarks include The Monument of Dr. Jose Rizal a famous and the earliest gravestone in the Philippines created to show respect to the Philippine National hero named Dr. Jose P. Rizal. Its groundwork was based on gun and stone taken from the destroyed aged Spanish prison in Daet. Lt. Col. Antonio Sanz and Lt. Col. Ildefonso Alegre of the Philippine activist military instigated the creation of the tombstone.

The Monument of the Martyrs of Camarines Norte is a symbol of struggle for sovereignty. The house of the first governor of Ambos Camarines is  considered as the oldest home in Daet owned by the former ruler of Ambos Camarines. Situated next to F. Pimentel Avenue close to the Camarines Norte State College, it became famous for its “cuatro-agua” method of structure. Pabico Ancestral Home on the other hand has a marble stairway with rococo-style figures that is at rest undamaged after several centuries.

Religious sites include Church of St. John the Baptist where the earlier 16th century old St. John the Baptist Church was previously placed. It is imaginatively created with the twin hearts of Jesus and Mary. The Cathedral of Holy Trinity shows the sacred trinity picture including further holy symbol.

A natural and scenic spot is Bagasbas Beach, a well liked spot for surfers located at Barangay Bagasbas in Daet. Tong’s Point, that is easily reached by walking, can be found at the northeast of Bagasbas and awfully close to the mouth of the river.

The River Mouth is a branch of the city of Mercedes and is 7 kilometers away from Bagasbas. It can be seen flouting from the House of Alvino’s Pizza on a plain day.

There are also other man-made attractions like the Kalayaan Park where you can see fountains, panoramic gardens, sights, ponds, open stage plays and more. The elevated Town Plaza provides playing field amenities, pipe-in music and a big TV screen to be used by the public.

Daet promises great adventure and relaxation to those who are up for the challenge.
