If you have not visited the flourishing city of Cagayan de Oro, then you have missed a matchless kind river rafting voyage that makes you scream at the top of your voices.

Cagayan de Oro is not only famous for river rafting alone, though. It has become famous after Philippine President Macapagal Arroyo experienced it herself in 2002. Therefore, the whole country and the rest of the world followed.

After this fun-filled water adventure, you can drive yourself to the major historical landmarks of the city like: Gaston Park and Saint Augustine Metropolitan Cathedral- the home of the Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro-Plaza de los Heroes which is a memorial built in honor of the heroes of three Filipino-American War, Mapawa Nature Park that’s best for nature trekking, biking and horseback riding.

For explorative caving, you might want to go to the pre-historic settlement site called Huluga where two caves enclose skeletal remains of a woman and a child. The woman’s skull is believed to be 377 Anno Domino (AD) old, as per studies done by Scripps Institution of Oceanography in La Jolla, California. If you’re curious to view more artifacts found in the cave, you can proceed to Museo de Oro inside Xavier University. La Castilla Museum houses heirloom and antiques that might interest you.

Some more parks to see in Cagayan de Oro that are of historical importance are Plaza Divisoria that’s dedicated to Filipino local and national heroes like Dr. Jose Rizal, Andres Bonifacio and President Ramon Magsaysay. Bonifacio Park inside Divisoria is also a must-see as it’s the site where soldiers were buried beneath the monument.

You shouldn’t leave town not unless you’ve caught a sight of the cascading waters of Catanico Falls and the Gardens of Malasag Eco-Tourism Village owned and managed by the Philippine Tourism Authorism in a reforested place in Malasag Hill. It’s a seven-hectare village that holds tribal house replicas and gives you a panoramic view of Macajalar Bay. Take a sequel to your first caving; get down to Macahambus Underground Cave and Gorge. You might also want to hop to Kagay-an Resort (formerly known is Lawndale Spring Resort) or check out the 18-hole Pueblo de Oro Golf Course designed by Robert Trent Jones II.

Vacationers from all over the world do not just come and leave Cagayan de Oro for business, but total fun rafting on the river, exploring the caves, swimming in the resorts and archiving in museums. Whatever you’re down with, don’t hesitate to take a trip.
