Agoo - a fast developing town of Philippines  Introduction

 Agoo is in the province of La Union, Philippines. It is a first class municipality in the province. Its name was derived from Aroo trees which thrived in the western coast along the small rivers that traverse the town. Agoo town is now serving as an educational centre in the province of Philippines. It is now an image of economic, cultural, political and religious development in Philippines. It is also identified as a trade and commerce center. There is a heavy influx of traders and businessman from   the neighboring parts into the city. According to the 2000 census, Agoo had a population of about 51923.

Agoo is serving as the educational hub in Philippines. It has a state level university, two national high schools, three private technical schools, another three privately owned high schools, twenty three elementary schools and seventy pre schools. Various day care centers have also been set up in and around Agoo which has further boosted the education scene in the locality.

 Trade and commerce has been gradually accelerating in and around Agoo area and the town is being recognized as a trade and commerce center. Agoo has accessibility to excellent transportation and communication facilities which has acted as a catalyst in its growth. It has access to six major roads namely the Manila North national highway, San Julian-Tucoc-Sto.,Agoo beach Road, San Francisco-Ambitacay road, Marcos Highway and Tomas Highways which has been the key to macro development of the town. There are various farms to market roads which are built properly aiding to the overall economic development of the town. The Agoo Postal service offers excellent communication services for the town.

With a thrust in the economical development of Agoo, the town now has three gasoline stations, five banking institutions, eleven tobacco trading centers and various other commercial and industrial establishments. Agoo also has excellent health and medical facilities with a Provincial hospital, 12 barangay health centers and 8 medical clinics.

 Tourism has also developed in Agoo with aggressive support from local officials, executives and the active participation of the town people. The main places to visit in Agoo are Shrine of Our Lady Charity, Agoo National Seashore Park, Grotto of our Lady Lourdes, Eagle of the North, Agoo Basilica, and Museo Iloco etc.  Overall development of Agoo is devoted to the faith of its people who are geared up for its economical and financial growth.
