Lima is the largest city and the capital of Peru. It is bordered by the Pacific Ocean from one side and it is situated on the valley of Rímac, Chillón¸ and Lurín Rivers. Lima is also amongst the top ten most populous cities on this planet and around a third of the population of Peru resides in Lima and this should be enough to prove the size of Lima. Lima was initially called the ‘City of Kings’ or Ciudad de los Reyes in Spanish. One will easily find the name Ciudad de los Reyes in many old maps of Peru.
The urban Lima extends over an area of approximately 800 square kilometers, while the Metropolitan city has an area of around 2700 square kilometers. The Metropolitan part of Lima is documented to be in the top ten metropolises in America. Lima is full of many hill ranges in and around the city like San Cosme, El Agustino, La Milla, El Pino, Pro hills, and Muleria.
Lima experiences subtropical climate with little humidity during some days of the year. Average temperature of Lima varies between 18 degrees Celsius and 19 degrees Celsius. The lowest temperature can reach 12 degree Celsius while the highest temperature can reach the heights of 30 degrees Celsius. Lima faces warm summers between the months of December and April and cold winters between the months of June and October. Rainfall isn’t written in the destiny of Lima and it experiences around 0.07 cm of rainfall on some lucky day. It is said to be the metropolitan city that experiences the lowest rainfall. Humidity can be high at times which results in fog during early morning hours in the months of June and December while low clouds are present during the months of May and November.
Population of Lima is a mix of migrants like Europeans (especially Spanish), Germans, Italians, people from Middle East, and Jews. Lima is also the industrial hub for Peru and an important contributor in the economical growth of Peru.
The Metropolitan section of Peru has around 7000 factories that have popped up due to proper working environment available in the city. Lima also has the most institutions (to be precise¸ 28 educational institutes) when compared to the rest of the country.
Transport facilities are world class in the city and this is the reason why factories and educational institutes are popping up in Lima.

Beaches at Lima >> added on November 20, 2009, by Wazling
If like to go to the beaches of Lima, you should be always careful. For an tourist it would be good, not to go to the beaches away from Lima more than an hour.
You should keep your eyes open and dont go to places, that cant be seen very well. Miraflores is the beach directly at Lima, but also there you should be careful.

Miraflores is the touristic district of Lima. The main hotels are located in this nice city by the Pacific ocean. During the last years, there have been a development of a huge offer of amenities, since fine cousine, fast food, cyber cafes (internet for less than a dollar per hour), until casinos, dancing, handcrafts, antiques flea markets, original paintings, cinemas, and much more.
The traditional Miraflores beach joins a lot of surfers as well as the riffs attracts windsurfers.
Miraflores also has an archeological site called Huaca Pucllana, which is a turistic place to visit and have a flavor of ancient cultures in the middle of the western culture.
For the modern mainstream, you can find Larco Mar which is a mall looking at the ocean, with a sunset that relax you.
The main travel agencies are in Miraflores with a huge offer of cities to visit in Peru. Even the main peruvian airlines have their offices in Miraflores.
However, the best way to enjoy your visit is renting a nice apartment (vacation rental) in a residential building. Full furnished, equipped and decorated, now it is the alternative for independent and business travellers.
For example, you can have a cozy one bedroom apartment for only US$220 the week, two bedrooms for 4 persons for only US$350 for one week. Of course, you can find luxury apartments and bigger ones. So, why do not you try it?
