Cuzco is located at the south-eastern and central region of Peru. Three large territory units like jungle areas, Andean zones and its borders comprises of the entire department. Large portions of the territory together make up Cuzco.
Location
Cuzco is surrounded by Junin and Ucayali jungles on the north & south, large Amazonian plain in the east and Apurimac and Ayacucho mountains in the west. Cuzco is one of the highest cities in the world. There is one airport in the city, which has been recently remodelled. It is a simple two-floored with gentle slopes.
Weather
The weather of the city is firmly fixed during winter and summer. Cuzco has relatively fresh climate. There is frequent decrease in temperature below zero to 5 degree Celsius during June. Normally, they have cold nights. As Cuzco is bounded by many jungles, they have the influence of great air masses coming from it. Due to the height and location, Cuzco has two different evident seasons: a rainy season and dry season.
Festivals
There are two main origins in Cuzco like Inca and Catholic. Traditional Cuzco festival takes place, where tourist can observe the symptoms that clearly shows pride, vitality and happiness. The festival boasts about the traditions of Cuzco. There are rich programmes like dances, parades, dinners, pilgrimages, agricultural fairs and handicrafts. The festival provides alternative feelings like physical senses and chaos. The festivals are very colourful and radiant in Cuzco, which brings flavours, liveliness and textures.
Society and Culture
Cuzco consists of three categories of people according to social classes: Upper class, middle class and lower class. People in Cuzco speak Quechua monolingually. However, the native languages have been disappeared in some parts of north. When it comes to culture, Cuzco is always the cultural capital. Being amongst the most important cities of Peru, Cuzco is a compulsory tourist destination for the people, who love man’s history. The city is filled with archaeology, people and customs.
When tourists visit Cuzco they feel the joy, colour, clothes, customs, Carnaval, Qollas etc. The creativity of the native people is very impressive and they are brought down with new techniques and ideas. Another thing for which Cuzco is famous is textiles and clay sculptures. Once you walk along the streets of Cuzco, you can find all types of traditional sculptures and altar pieces. You can find the diversity and richness of Cuzco.
