Multan, Pakistan - Overview

Multan is a historical city of Pakistan. It has a long history of culture, traditions and Sufism.  The city of Multan is famous for its shrines.  It is also known as the city of Aulia. Multan is situated in the South of Punjab, Pakistan. It is neighbored with some other popular cities like Khanewal and Bahawalpur and the town of Burewala.

Multan has warm climate and it is regarded as one of the hottest cities of Pakistan. The population of Multan is approximately 4 million people. The bazaars, mazaars, mosques and tombs of Multan are famous throughout Pakistan. Every year hundreds of thousands of visitors visit Multan to explore its culture, beauty and history.

The people of Multan are very hospitable. Multan is inhabited by different kinds of people including Seraiki, Punjabi, Urdu, Sindhi, Balochi and Pashto.  Multan is also a birthplace for many notable poets and personalities including Ahmed Shah Abdali, Arsh Siddiqi, Haider Gardezi, Anwar Jamal, Kashif Baloch, Hafeez Ullah Khan and Sahir Bukhari. The current Prime Minister and Foreign minister of Pakistan also come from the city of Multan.

Multan is also a cultural, economical and industrial center of the region. Agriculture, tourism, painted pottery, fertilizer, handicrafts and cosmetics are some of the major industries of the city. Multan is also home to big educational institutions including Nishter Medical College, Government College and Bahauddin Zikria University. Some other popular schools in Multan are Nishat High School, Jinnah Highs, Multan Public School and Beacon House School.  Multan is also a major tourism center of the area.

There are many famous sites and attractions in Multan. Some of the most popular sites and tourists destinations are Multan Arts Council, Khooni Burj and gates of the Old City, Nishtar Hospital, Multan Cantt, Shah Rukn-e Alam Colony, The City Hall, Eidgah Mosque and WAPDA Colony etc.  Multan is also home to many famous parks including Chamanzar-e-Askari Cantt, Shah Shamas Park, Cantonment garden, Qila Kohna, Langey Khan Garden and Aam-Khas Garden etc. Cricket, Football and Hockey are the popular sports of Multan.

Every year a number of sporting events are arranged in the city, which provides a source of entertainment for the people of all types.  Some popular sports grounds in Multan are Multan Cricket Club Stadium, Government College Cricket Ground, Qasim Bagh Stadium and Divisional Sports Ground etc.

The mosques of Multan are also famous throughout Pakistan. The most popular mosques in Multan are Masjid Al-Khair, Sawi Mosque, Jamia Khair-ul-Madaris, Baqarabad Mosque and jalal masjid Gulgasht. Visiting Pakistan is incomplete without visiting Multan.
