Pyongyang Travel Guide, North Korea

Pyongyang happens to be the capital city of North Korea and hence it becomes the most important city. To help the government, the city of Pyongyang has been divided into 4 counties and 19 wards. This makes the administration of the city a pretty easy task.

August is considered to be the hottest month for the city of Pyongyang with the highest temperature touching 28 degree Celsius while the lowest temperature remains around 20 degree Celsius. January happens to be the coldest month with highest temperatures not crossing the minus one degree Celsius mark while the average lowest temperature falling to minus 10 degrees Celsius mark. The average highest temperatures for the whole year is around 15 degrees Celsius while the average lowest is around 6 degrees Celsius.

The city of Pyongyang is very important in terms of business and hence it has been connected internationally by every means possible. Pyongyang is connected to the city of Beijing via railway line which consumes around 25.5 hours while the journey to Moscow via train can consume up to 6 days.

The airport for the city of Pyongyang is located around 25 kilometers from the center of the city and is known by the name of Sunan International Airport. The local company Air Koryo runs most of the flights that take off from this airport and these flights connects the city of Pyongyang to many international cities. Recently the China aviation authority started a flight from Pyongyang to Beijing and vice versa which flies 3 days per week. Slowly but steadily the airport of Pyongyang is growing as per the needs of locals and tourists.

The best way to commute from one place to other within the city of Pyongyang is by using the awesome metro system of the city. The 22.5 km long metro rail system has quickly become very famous amongst the tourists due to its world class facilities. Other older methods which are still prevalent in the city are the trolleybus system which expands for 150 kilometers in and around the city plus the tram system which expands to around 53 kilometers in and around the city of Pyongyang.
