Hastings, New Zealand – Overview 

Hastings is located in New Zealand in the Hawkes Bay region, and it is known as the 'fruit bowl' of the country.  This city has a thriving wine and fruit industry, as well as a climate that is consistently warm.  The city is also a splendid place to take in the architecture of its Spanish Mission and Art Deco style buildings.

The widespread environment of Hastings is the home of a multitude of wineries and orchards.  The wine and fruit industry is matched perfectly with the Hawkes Bay's consistently warm climate. 

Hastings has a fine display of Spanish Mission architecture, which was mostly built after the earthquake in the region during 1931.  The city is renowned for how beautifully landscaped its gardens and parks are, which flourish in the soil and climate of the region.  Hastings also has more than 6,000 street trees, which include the historic and magnificent Oak Avenue.

The region hugs the Pacific Ocean's coastline on the east of the North Island, and it quite possibly could be one of the warmest regions in the country.  During the months from November to April, the temperature ranges from 68°F to 95°F, and from June to September the average temperature is about 59°F. 

The population of Hastings and Napier combined makes up most of the population, and they are just 20 kilometers from each other.  Hastings and Napier were both stuck with an earthquake in 1931, being rebuilt in an architectural style that put them at the center of modern fashion.  The splendid Spanish Mission and Art Deco buildings make the region one of the world's most unique architectural centers.

A wonderful spot in Hastings is the Frimley Park, which is one of the finest parks in the district.  It provides a great circular rose garden containing over 5,500 roses.  Frimley Park has a wide selection of beautiful shrubs and plants, as well as a unique layout that is similar to that of an old English garden.  Specimen trees are registered here in the National Notable register, some of them being the rarest or biggest in the hemisphere.

Cornwall Park has an English village environment of more than 8 hectares, with a variety of colorful trees and gardens, as well as is a popular spot for a picnic.  It is located next to Cornwall Park, which is an authentic Chinese Osmanthus Garden.  This garden commemorates the city's 15th anniversary with its Chinese sister city of Guilin.
