The city of Rotterdam is situated in province of South Holland, Netherlands. Rotterdam has always been an internationally important city due to its huge sea port. It was between the years 1962 and 2004 when this sea port was considered to be the largest on this complete planet. After the year 2004 the tag of being the busiest sea port went to Shanghai.

It is the Nieuwe Maas (which means New Meuse) River with which this city shares its sea port. The name for this city was derived from the name of the nearby dam which is built on the river Rotte. Around 25 percent of the total residents are Muslims. The city is also home to more communities namely the local Dutch Antillean and the Cape Verdian. The diversity in origin of locals is something that makes this city very colorful.

The famous Nieuwe Mass River divides Rotterdam into two different sections. The city is interconnected by a complex system of tunnels and subways. Some of the famous tunnels and bridge in Rotterdam are Willems Bridge, Willems Railway Tunnel, Erasmus Bridge, Queen’s Bridge, and Van Brienenoord Bridge.

    The 19 windmills of Kinderdijk are world heritage sites since 1997.This wonderful group of buildings is a reminder of the more than 10,000 windmills that once occupied the landscape of The Netherlands.
