Maputo Travel Guide, Mozambique

Maputo, Travel Guide – General Information

Maputo is the capital of Mozambique. It is located in the west part of the Maputo Bay, right where the Tembe River flows into the bay. The city is therefore an important harbor of the Indian Ocean, its economy relying on activities related to this geographical position. The large number of population is a proof of the many riches people find in this region: cotton, coal, sugar, the locals producing shoes, pottery, cement, furniture etc.

Maputo, Travel Guide – Means of Transportation

Just like any important city in a country, Maputo has Maputo International Airport, located a few kilometers away from the heart of the capital. Once arrived downtown, you will most certainly come across the main means of transportation in town, called chapa, which looks like a minibus, taking you to every part of the city. These small buses are said to have been imported from Japan, being a Toyota car. The taxies are quite cheap and you cannot possibly miss the orange one, called Laranjihna- Little Orange. When you get there, you will understand what I am talking about, as this funny car looks like a half orange, carrying no more than 3 people. It will charge you 8$ per kilometer and it will show you a big part of this amazing capital. Any Maputo Travel Guide will also recommend you not to rent a car, as it is quite dangerous to drive on the roads.

Maputo, Travel Guide- Places to Visit

There are a large number of museums that attract all tourists who want to find out more about the country’s past, present and even future. The Museum of Natural History brags about the large variety of animals and insects that live in the region, whereas the Museum of the Revolution tells proudly the old story of how the locals have managed to get rid of the Portuguese domination. The Art Museum proves that this country had in its turn smart and important people and the Money Museum shows you the indirect history of the city’s evolution.

After gathering some information about the city’s past and culture, you cannot possible leave these places without first visiting and taking a sunbath on the amazing beaches that God gave to these unique people. Praia de Macaneta is perfect for surfing, due to the presence of the strong and large waves, but all Maputo Travel Guides advise you not to miss Ponta Malongane, a mesmerizing beach with golden sand and blue - green water.

Once you feel that this amazing city has nothing more left to offer, just gather some information about Las Palmas Travel Guide and Nacala Travel Guide and continue your wonderful adventure trough the world.
