The city of Morelia happens to be the capital city for Michoacán State. The municipality for the city of Morelia is Morelia municipality itself. The altitude for the city of Morelia was around 1900 meters above sea level. The city of Morelia is also the municipal seat for the Municipality of Morelia. The city of Morelia is situated somewhere in the Guauangareo Valley and this same city of Morelia is surrounded by two huge hills namely Quinceo Hills and Punhuato Hills.

The municipality of Morelia stretches over an area of around 2000 kilometer square and has the population of around 685000 inhabitants. This municipality includes different towns like those of Capula and Morelia. The huge municipality of Morelia also includes one tiny municipality within its official borders. This municipality is Tarimbaro Municipality and as per the census of year 2005 the population for this combined municipality was around 740000 inhabitants. On the other hand the population for the city of Morelia was around 610000 inhabitants as per the census of year 2005. As per the same census of year 2005 the population for conurbated area of Morelia was around 643000 inhabitants. The huge population for the city of Morelia reflects the strength of the city and the kind of live which the locals of the city might be living.

The current president for this municipality is Fausto Vallejo Figueroa and it was his third straight term for the president seat during the time of the writing for this article. This reflects the trust of the locals in this president. No doubt he has worked hard in last couple of years so as to provide serious improvements for this city of Morelia which was initially not being taken care of by other local governments.

Education in the city of Morelia has improved considerably in last couple of years and this can be proved from the number of primary level and technical level institutions which are built in and around this huge city. There are around eight universities in the city of Morelia (of which 3 are government funded and rest are private universities) and two very famous technical institutions (of these two one is public and other is private).

It has been the level of education and various tourist hot spots which have increased the importance of this city for the country of Mexico.
