Mexico city, Mexico - Overview
Mexico City is the capital of Mexico. It is the economical, cultural and financial hub of Mexico. The city is located in the Valley of Mexico and it is a richest city in Latin America. Mexico was founded in 1325 by Nahua Aztec. Mexico was completely destroyed in 1521 and was rebuilt and redeveloped in the following years. The Spanish were the first to arrive in Mexico in 1519.
In the colonial period Guatemala, Cuba, Philippine and Florida were administered by Mexico. Other famous sporting events like 1970 FIFA World Cup and 1986 FIFA World Cup also took place in Mexico. In the 1900, the Mexico City continued to grow as the cultural and economical center of international importance.
Due to its tropical location and high elevation, the city of Mexico has temperate highland climate. There is a mountain region of oak and pine trees known as Ajusco. The average temperature of the city varies from 12 to 16°C depending upon the altitude and region of the city.
The city of Mexico is organized as a federal district. The sixteen borough of Mexico has great importance. The major boroughs of the city are Iztapalapa, Xochimilco, Miguel Hidalgo, Álvaro Obregón, Benito Juárez, Cuauhtémoc, Iztacalco and Milpa Alta.
Mexico City is home to large communities and the most notable communities are from Argentina, Chile, Spain, Colombia, Germany, France and Poland. The majority of the inhabitants are Roman Catholic, but there are residents that are Protestants, Buddhists, Jewish and atheist.
Mexico City has a lot of attractions for the visitors not only from South America but also from other countries of the world. It is a city of landscapes, archeological wonders, sparkling beaches, gardens, museums and hotels. The most famous landmarks in Mexico City are The Historic Center, Plaza de la Constitución, National Palace, Chapultepec Park, Hacienda de los Morales, National Museum of Anthropology, Fine Arts Palace and the golden Angel of Independence.
In addition, the city has more than 100 art galleries, 35 concert halls and more than 150 museums. The City of Mexico is the fourth city with the highest number of theaters in the world.
Soccer is the most popular sport in Mexico. The city of Mexico has a lot of stadiums and playgrounds. It has the honor to host some of the major sporting events of the world such as FIFA World Cup and the Olympic games.
