Mexico city, Mexico - History
Mexico City is the capital of Mexico and it has a great historical importance. Approximately in 1000 BC, the first Mexican civilization, the Olmecs, established in Veracruz and Tabasco. The city of Mexico was built on the ruins of the Aztec city of Tenochtitlán. In the colonial age, it was the capital of viceroyalty of New Spain. It is located in the Valley of Mexico.
Mexico City was founded by Nahua Aztec in 1325 as Mexico-Tenochtitlan. It rapidly became the capital of Mexico with its revolutionized development.
It also administered some of the major regions of the world including Florida, Philippines and Cuba in the colonial age. The city of Mexico was captured by the French army in 1863. The Emperor of the French army Maximilian was crowned in 1864. Mexico City was also occupied by the Francisco Villa and Emiliano Zapata.
Mexico City also had the honor to host the Olympic Games of 1968 and the FIFA World cup in 1970 and 1986. Mexico, with its mineral wealth and fertile plains, was the crown jewel of the Spanih colonies. The Monarchs and landlords in Mexico distributed the land in the form of encomiendas.
The post-revolution history of Mexico is marked by a single political party the Partido Revolucionario Institutional.
Mexico City was completely destroyed in 1521. In 1524, the municipality of Mexico City was established and the city was rebuilt. In the colonial age, the construction of many buildings and churches like the baroque Metropolitan Cathedral and the Basilica of Guadalupe took place. Mexico City has skyscraper buildings, which are the tallest buildings in South America. World Trade Center México is the tallest building in Mexico.
Mexico City has more than 20 million inhabitants, which ranks as the city with the highest population density in the world. Mexico City incorporates 58 adjacent municipalities. Mexico City is divided in sixteen boroughs and each borough is comprised of hundreds of colonias. Mexico City is home to large communities including Japanese, Spanish, French and Brazilian communities
After 1990, Mexico City continued to grow as the cultural and economic hub of the country.
Mexico City is full of landmarks of historical importance. Some of the major landmarks in Mexico City are the Golden Angel of Independence, Chapultepec Park, Avenida de los Insurgentes, the National Museum of Anthropology and the National Palace.
