The happening resort town of Mazatlán has grown immensely in last couple of years in terms of economy as well as tourism industry. The municipality for the city of Mazatlán stretches over an area of around 3100 kilometer square. This huge municipality includes many small communities which are situated in the proximity of Mazatlán. Some of these communities are El Quelite, La Noria, El Habal, Villa Union, and some tiny village too.

The city also has a unique ferry service which connects it to La Paz.
