Ixtapa History, Mexico

The city of Ixtapa isn’t ever complete without the neighboring town Zihuatanejo. Both the resort cities are located in pacific coast of Guerrero and hence this defines the proximity of both the towns. Both the towns have been very different in terms of character since historical years although they are situated very close to each other.

It was the tourism development industry which was being run under the supervision of Mexican government which laid the foundation of this beach resort. The name of that industry was FONATUR and they laid the foundation for this city of Ixtapa some 30 years back so as to promote tourism in the country of Mexico.

Actually, the idea for the foundation of Zihuatanejo came way before the foundation of Ixtapa was laid down. The town of Zihuatanejo was already a famous fishing town during the time when plans were being made to lay down the foundation of Ixtapa which was to be the modern town located in the proximity of this natural fishing town Zihuatanejo. And as per plans, the city of Zihuatanejo is a famous fishing hot spot. It is a town made for those tourists who want to give rest to their bodies and take time out of the busy lifestyle which various metros have. On the other hand the city of Ixtapa is famous for its high rise monuments and modern styling.

It is said that the foundation for the town of Zihuatanejo was laid during 3000 B.C. This has been proved by various historical items which have been found in around the region during various archeological excavations.

The city of Ixtapa was actually a very special project for FONATUR. They had plans to build all the modern styled hotels around one area and they called that area as Bahia del Palmar. As of now almost all the favorite hotels of this city are located in this region thus providing enough ease to the tourists that hit this tiny city.

The project of developing this city proved to be a boon for the locals of Zihuatanejo and the areas that lie around Zihuatanejo. Employments came into the city of Zihuatanejo like never before and they never ended. Even after the development work was over the locals of the city got the chance to work in various restaurants and shops of this city thus continuing to earn money.
