Guaymas travel guide

The city of Guaymas (which was earlier famous by the name of Heroico Puerto Guaymas de Zaragoza) happens to be a port city and municipality for the state of Sonora, Mexico. The city of Guaymas is also the municipality which is part of Sonora. The city of Guaymas is situated on the famous Gulf of California and is located on a small bay of this gulf. The city of Guaymas is located in the proximity of River Yaqui’s (which in Spanish is called as Rio Yaqui) mouth. The city of Guaymas is located on the northern side of Ciudad Obregón and on the southern side of Hermosillo (which is the capital city for the state of Sonora).

The city of Guaymas happens to be the administrative hub for the municipality of Guaymas and also for the beachfront division named as San Carlos. As per the census of year 2005 the population for the city of Guaymas was around 102000 inhabitants while as per the same census the population for the municipality of Guaymas was around 135000 inhabitants. The municipality of Guaymas stretches over an area of around 12207 square kilometers sand this makes this municipality as the largest (in terms of area of expansion) when compared to all other municipalities of this state.

The port of Guaymas is actually the 2nd largest (largest being that of Manzanillo) in the Pacific Coast of Mexico. Initially the city of Guaymas was the largest producer of Oyster but as the city modernized it got engulfed with heavy pollution and faced over fishing which resulted in decline of Oyster production. As of now the city of Guaymas holds a major chunk of shrimp producing market in the country of Mexico.

The city of Guaymas is located on flat land with semi arid surroundings.
