Culiacan travel guide

The city of Culiacán is part of Sinaloa (a state somewhere in northwestern side of Mexico). The city of Culiacán is also the capital city for the state of Sinaloa and the capital city for the Culiacán municipality.

The city of Culiacán is located right at the merging point of River Humaya and River Tamazula. These two rivers meet at this point and the river which emerges has been named as River Culiacán. The city of Culiacán is located right in the center of Sinaloa and has equal distances from the two major urban locations Mazatlán which is located on its southern side and Los Mochis which is located on its northern side.

As per the census of year 2005 the population for the city of Culiacán was around 600000 inhabitants and the population for the municipality of Culiacán was around 800000 inhabitants. This huge population makes the city of Culiacán one of the largest when compared to other cities of Mexico. The huge difference in population between the city and the municipality is the inclusion of various communities into the city to give it the tag of a municipality. The two major communities which are part of this municipality are El Dorado and Costa Rica.

The city of Culiacán is also huge in terms of area of expansion. The total area which the city covers is around 4800 kilometer square. The altitude of the city is around 55 meters from sea level.

The city of Culiacán experiences huge immigration due to the presence of many world class universities. Most of the immigrants come from Mexico and Europe to the city of Culiacán. The educational boom and the economic boom has helped the city grow immensely in last 5 decades. This has also resulted in immigrants entering the city from countries like China, France, Germany, Eastern Europe, Italy, Greece, and Japan etc. The city of Culiacán boasts of around 15 government funded universities, which has left a mark on the international level.

Traffic jams are regular in the city of Culiacán due to narrow roads. Still there are many high speed roads present in the city of Culiacán which have decreased the jam problems heavily.
