Ciudad Del Carmen travel guide

Ciudad del Carmen means Carmen City in English Language. The city of Ciudad del Carmen is set right on the south western edge in Island of Carmen facing the Gulf of Mexico.

The city of Ciudad del Carmen has become an important tourist hot spot in the country of Mexico due to its scenic beauty, historical monuments, and various stories that are attached with these historical monuments. As per the census of year 2005 the population of Ciudad del Carmen was around 155000 inhabitants. On the other hand the population of municipality for Ciudad del Carmen was around 200000 inhabitants as per the same census of year 2005.

It is the center for Carmen Municipality of Campeche. This municipality includes various regions that surround the city of Ciudad del Carmen. The two cities namely Campeche and Ciudad del Carmen are said to be rivals. Locals of these two cities somehow due to some unknown reasons just don’t appreciate the moves of the other.

Today the city is famous for various monuments which were built by the locals during the times when the Spanish were attacking the city.  Surprisingly the walls were strong enough to have survived the long history of Ciudad del Carmen.

 One of the favorite cuisines of this city is fish food. You will surely find multiple dishes all of which are made up of fishes. On the other hand fish industry has become the major industry that drives the economy of Ciudad del Carmen. The city of Ciudad del Carmen is also famous by the tag ‘Pearl of the Gulf’ due to the huge water bodies surrounding it and due to the huge fish industry of the city. It is this city itself where the major shipping port of Campeche is actually located. In recent years oil industry has also experienced exponential growth in the city. 40 percent of natural gas of Mexico is produced in the city of Ciudad del Carmen itself and around 80 percent of crude petroleum is produced in this city itself.
