Chiapas Sights and Landmarks Guide, Mexico

The state of Chiapas is rich in terms of sites for local as well as foreign tourists due to the presence of various archeological sites that were left in the state by the Maya dynasty. This does not mean that the state is full of historical monuments only. Nature lovers can hit various natural sites like the huge waterfalls in the region of Aguas Azul, the beautiful lakes of Montebello, the thousand feet high Sumidero Canyon, or else the thick and confusing jungles located in the region of Yaxchilan.

The waterfalls at Agua Azul will surely leave you astonished whenever you visit them. These waterfalls are formed by the joining of River Shumulha and River Agua Azul. The lush green surroundings, the blue waters, and the unstoppable sound of falling waters makes this place a must watch whenever you visit the country of Mexico. The collections of these waterfalls are located around 65 kilometers from Palenque. Due to the ever increasing tourist numbers in this region many locals have started to sell various arts and other handicrafts. Hence you can also buy a memorable handicraft around this region which will reflect the culture of Mexico for the many years to come.

Another beautiful tourist hot spot in the state of Chiapas is Sumidero Canyon. For tourists who want to take time out from the hoopla of the city, this is the ideal place. The peaceful sight of rocks which have been shaped by nature after many years of hard work and the huge figures with beautiful waters flowing around makes this place another must visit site for any tourist. The area around this region was tagged as National Park somewhere in the year 1982 due to the presence of flora and fauna, beautiful flowers, and various animals.

The city of San Cristobal De Las Casas is the must visit city in the state of Chiapas. This city is famous for its cobble stone streets, historical churches, red tiled roofs, and tiny trees which can be found in every corner of the city. You will be surprised to know that around 10 different languages are famous amongst the locals of this city. The Santo Domingo Church is amongst the most famous Churches in this city and a must visit monument due to its beautiful architecture.
