Famous by the name of Mexican Caribbean, the city of Cancún is part of Quintana Roo (which happens to be a state eastern side in the country of Mexico). The city of Cancún was initially famous by the tag of Ekab (which mean black earth in English Language). The land which was called as Ekab has now become a district in the same state of Quintana Roo.

The first conquerors of this land were the Spanish and the initial language, which was being spoken in this city, was Mayan.

The Spanish Army brought along with them the downfall for the city. Locals of the city were hit by various diseases, struck by wars, and local revolts against the Spanish control. All this resulted in major decreases in the population of the city. Later on small chunks of settlements were left somewhere near Cozumel Island and Isla Mujeres. These people continued to live somehow facing all the hardships that the rest of the population couldn’t survive and as a result the remains of the city never died down.

Banco de México was responsible for laying the foundation of the city of Cancún somewhere in the year of 1967. Another theory says that the land was randomly selected by a computer for laying the foundation of the city but original reason is something else. Banco de México did extensive research and this research proved that this land was extremely favorable for tourism industry thus bringing in huge profit for the nation and also for the bank who was supposed to invest in the infrastructure of this new city. Around $30 million was invested in the installation of the initial infrastructure of the city. The initial work on the infrastructure of the new city was started somewhere in January 1970.

The initial 9 hotels of the city were built with the money provided by the government of Mexico as investors weren’t ready to invest in a city which wasn’t yet fully developed. The first of the newly formed hotels were Cancun Caribe (now named as Hyatt hotel) and Playa Blanca (now famous by the tag of Blue Bay hotel).

The city of Cancún has grown exponentially since then.
