Antananarivo Nightlife, Madagascar

The city has a panoramic view that gets even better when the night falls. Antananarivo offers a wide selection of night spots that every one, tourist and residents alike, will enjoy.  Go to their nightclubs and bars or to their restaurants and theatres.

Bars and Nightclubs

There are a lot of bars and nightclubs that you can choose from in the city.  Most of these nightspots, however, are recommended only for adults.

Pandora Station.  As guests enter this club, the very first thing that will catch their attention is the quasi-Aztec décor.  This is one of the hippest dance clubs in the city.  The music varies from electronic and trance to rap and R&B.  The food selection is the usual bar snacks and a must-try is their pizza.

Bar Mojo.  This bar is a place where younger age groups can hangout.  Reggae music dominates the dance floor.  DJs play on some nights while bands perform on other nights.  There are also nights when the place offers something else to the patrons and that is poetry reading.

Cohiba Club.  This is also known as the Hilton’s house nightclub.  Its music is eclectic that is why everyone will be able to appreciate it.  The theme of the clubs also varies every night but one of the favorites is the Indian theme.  Cohiba is more high-priced than other clubs in the city.

Le Bus.  This place is the biggest and most spacious club with reference to its dance floor.  The interior has a contemporary style and the music played is the latest.

Restaurants and Theatres

For more decent and subdued nightlife, you can check out the different restaurants or watch performances at the theatre in Antananarivo.  Some of these night spots are the following:

Centre Curturel Albert Camus.  This is the main performing arts site in the city.  It presents a wide array of shows which range from concerts and dance performances to live theatre acts and film screenings.

Grill du Rova.  This is one of the most visited restaurants in Antananarivo.  Aside from the mouth-watering dishes, the place also offers music recitals every Friday.  In addition to this, there are performances during Sundays and soirées every first and third Wednesday of the month.

Theatre de Verdure Antsahamanitra.  This amphitheatre is located on the northeastern side of a lake.  Tourists can enjoy pop concerts performed by the Malagasy or local artists.  The tickets are very inexpensive.

Ceramique in Mahamasine.  This restaurant can be found just below the Rova.  It is a good place to have a dinner and conversation with family and friends.

Spending an evening in Antananarivo is splendidly relaxing especially after a day’s tour around the area.  You could simply enjoy performances of local artists or spend the night your way.  Whichever way you go, you will definitely have a good night out.
