Schifflange sights and landmarks guide

It was formerly a mining town. But today it hardly bears any signs of its heavy industry past. The current domestic mining areas are appealing and welcoming. Its location presents an ideal green vacation opportunity, especially in the summers. Schifflange is chiefly known for its resistance during the general strike by the Nazis in 1942.  

The everyday language over here is the German dialect which is influenced by French and German. Both these languages are widely used here in the government, press and the cultural life. Schifflange is a charming town which is a blend of the old and the new cultures as well as buildings. It is a very well maintained city and apparently prosperous. The A13 motorway passes through the north of Schifflange.  

It is mainly recognized for its iron ores. Iron and Steel production is Schifflange’s leading industry. Therefore, you can see iron and steel factories over here. Pig iron, steel and rolled steel account for most of the financial revenues. There are walking paths through the old ore grounds and while walking you can see various sites from where the iron ore was extracted.  

The city possesses a Museum of Resistance that commemorates the Nazis general strike in 1942. It is open on the weekdays during the office hours. Near Schifflange is the Museum of the Battle of the Bulge in the Castle of Wiltz. It is open from Monday to Friday and on Easter Saturday and Easter Sunday. Another Museum of the Battle of Bulge is present in the Castle of Clervaux. Its opening times are varied and you have to check according to season / month you are visiting it in. National Museum of Resistance is present in Esch-sur-Alzette, which is located near Schifflange. Schifflange has an Art Gallery.   

While walking within the city, you will get the views of magnificent houses mostly with garden terraces. You will also come across some traditional constructions. Off the rue de Noertzange in Schifflange, you will find the well planned residences which are the part of a current real estate project.  

The year 2009 will be a memorable year for Schifflange. There is an international sports meet for the elderly. If you happen to visit Schifflange next year, you must not miss the event.
