Dublin, Travel Guide – Etymology
The name of this amazing Irish capital comes from the ancient word Dubh Linn, which means “black pool”. However, many historians don’t agree with this etymology, as they believe that the modern variant of this language is Baile Átha Cliath. The first reference that has been made about this town dates back to the year 140, when Ptolemy speaks about the city of Eblana, a name which is closely related to the derivation Dubh Linn. A similar name to the variant Dubh Linn can be found in the Icelandic language - "djúp lind", which means “deep pool”.

Dublin is a really vibrating place. There you can have almost everything you want to. You can make just shopping tours, there“re shops for everyone and every budget, as well as a huge number of pubs and bars. Also a lot of clubs are located in the city center, most of them in the area of temple bar. There you have also a brode offer of cultural activities you can go to.
The people are friendly, like most of the Irish.
If you ever got to Ireland, you really must go there!

Christchurch Cathedral >> added on October 22, 2009, by zangazanga
The Cathedral is about one thousand years old. It's amazing and magnificent!
It is huge and beautiful, a little bit like a castle.
The inside of the cathedral is wonderful, so huge and beautifully decorated. There are pointed arches all over the church and the floor is also colorfully decorated. Going to a service there is something you should really experience.
Also listen to an organ concert if you have the chance, the acoustic of the church is astonishing!
Guinness Storehouse >> added on October 22, 2009, by zangazanga
Guinness Storehouse is like the origin of all beers and a little piece of Irish history and culture.
You can follow the brewing process, you will meet the different types of the Guinness and even meet Arthur Guinness, the father of this great drink. ;)
There is also a nice exhibition about the history of the advertising of the Guinness.
The greatest thing, in my opinion, is that you can learn how to pour your own pint of Guinness and they will also give you diploma that says that you became a master of this craft. :D
At the top floor you will get a pint of Guinness and you can enjoy the great view on the whole city.
Dublin Writers Museum >> added on October 21, 2009, by zangazanga
If you like literature, Writers Museum is something you should definitely see. Here you can have a taste of the immense literary past the city has.
No matter how well you think you know one writer or another, you may always ind here something new and surprising.
You will find here books, letters and personal staff of Oscar Wilde, Samuel Becket and many others.
There is also a very nice bookshop and a chafe inside the building that I also warmly recommend.
