Dublin nightlife

Travel Guides > Ireland > Dublin > Nightlife
Dublin nightlife is best defined as ‘vibrant’ and packs much more fun and entertainment than Cork, Galway or any other Irish city. Dubliners are known for their clubbing and partying habits; actually, with half of the city’s population aged below 25, you cannot expect it to be otherwise.
Dublin nightlife means different things to do – you can dance your night away at any of the area clubs, go watching movies at the multi-screen cinemas or spend your time at a bar. And if you are fond of music, then you cannot simply find a place better than Dublin!
Dublin Nightlife – About Pubs
Dublin City has many pubs; if you go counting, they will exceed 100 in number. Some of these are traditional wine bars, where you get quality wines. These wine bars are ideal for downing a few pints of the wine of your choice while chatting with your friends. The Auld Duliner, The Brazen Head, The Firestone, Messrs Maguires, O'Neills, The Quays Bar, The Temple Bar and The Thomas Read are among Dublin’s best watering holes. (The Brazen Head, established in the 12th century, is the oldest pub in Europe).
A number of modern, sophisticated bars, known as super-pubs, have come up in Dublin. Apart from offering the traditional pub grub, these entertainment establishments have multiple bar and dance floor facilities. They usually remain open till late hours. Some popular super-pubs in Dublin are AKA, The Bailey, Cocoon, Dakota, Knightsbridge, Q Bar, Smasara and The Odeon.
Some Dublin pubs are renowned more as live music venues than anything else. These include names like Eamonn Dorans, Temple Bar Music Centre, The Dame Tavern, The Olympia, The Village and Whelans.
Dublin Nightlife – About Nightclubs
Dublin nightclubs serve guests from around 10 pm and roll down their shutters at about 2.30 or 3.00 am. Most of the nightclubs have entry fees, ranging between €5 and €15. Although the nightclubs serve drinks, the drinks are a bit too pricey and it would be better if you rather have your drinks at a pub/bar before stepping into the nightclub.
Dublin’s best Nightclubs are – Boomerangs, Cafe en Seine, Club M, Lilies Bordelllo, Spirit, Slatterys, The George, The Playhouse, The Sugar Club and Tripod. Among these nightclubs, Tripod is the most famous Dublin venue. The city-center nightclub, The George is Dublin’s longest-standing gay establishment. While Boomerangs and Club M are located in the Temple Bar area, Cafe en Seine, Spirit and Slatterys have Abbey St. as their address.
Remember, Dublin nightlife venues are a bit particular about the dress-code. So, refrain from dressing casually. And one thing you cannot afford to forget while you go nightlife hunting in Dublin is carrying your ID-Card or something as a proof that you are aged above 18.

Jameson Distillery >> added on October 14, 2009, by Wazling
If you like irish whiskey, you can visit the Jameson distillery, nearly in the center of Dublin. Make a guided tour to see the history of whiskey and how it is produced.
Interesting is also the bar at the end of a tour. There you can taste several older whiskeys and you also get a Jameson.
Great Pub in Dublin >> added on October 9, 2009, by zangazanga
Dublin is famous for its numerous pubs. My favorite one, if that is even possible, is the Ha'penny Bridge Inn.
Nights are really great there with live music from traditional Irish to jazz and also great and famous comedy nights. They are opened 7days a week and the whole place is very much old-stylish, decorated and furnished in the traditional way.
Many locals attend the place, they are very kind people and you can always find some locals for a pleasant discussion. Come back more times if you can and try some more of the great kinds of beers they have. ;)
The Gravediggers >> added on October 6, 2009, by erato
The Gravediggers is one of the greatest pubs in the world. The place got it's name from the gravediggers who often attended the pub after a long day of hard work. This because The Gravediggers is located right next to the Glasnevin Cemetery. Everyone loves that place and I can totally understand it. It has a special atmosphere, it's like you walk right into the past. The decoration of the pub was not changed since the time of the first owner in the 19th century.
Order a pint of their great Guinness and enjoy the hospitality and good conversations with the locals that make every traveler feel at home.
Clontarf Castle >> added on September 18, 2009, by Wazling
If you like good food and a guiness in a noble atmosphere, you should go there. You can even get very good rooms in the hotel, not cheap but ver well equipped.
Shelbourne Park Greyhound Stadium >> added on August 11, 2009, by Wazling
If you like betting on horses, you should also try the dog race stadium at Dublin, the Shelbourne Park Greyhound Stadium.
There you can already bet with only some Euros and it´s really funny to watch the fast dogs.
