Meshed Nightlife, Iran

For those who have read a lot about the city of Mashhad, the running impression is that the city offers no night life or nightly entertainment. The entertainment in the city may not be as lively as vibrant with the other nightlife in many western countries, but the city still has something to offer its many visitors. But first up, a quick rundown on what is the main attraction of the city.

The city of Mashhad is one of the most important cities in Iran and in the Middle East. And the importance of the city is not based on the many night spots is has or the many shopping complexes it host. Rather the city of Mashhad is known as one of the holier cities in the region. From the name of the region itself, the visitors of the area will have an idea as to what is the major concern of the city and its residents. In Persian language, the meaning of its name is the place of martyrdom. The main attraction in the area is the shrine of the Imam Reza and most of the visitors of the city are pilgrims who want to pay respect to the shrine of the Imam. But this doesn’t mean that the visitors will have no other activities than religious in nature.

The city is known as well for its many shopping precincts and areas. Some of the more common shopping areas that can be accessed at night include the Almas-e-Shargh Shopping Center, the Zist-e-Khavar Shopping Center, the Proma Shopping Center, the Jennar Street Mall, the International Bazaar Shopping Complex, the Bazaar Reza and the Bazzar Markazi. Visitors from other cities and from other countries can experience shopping in these areas. Aside from shopping and the many retail shops in the area, your night in the city can also be spent on the many cheap eating places that dot the areas near the shrine.

Some of the more popular city bars and food kiosks that should be sampled include the Kababis, the sandwich bars and other places that specialize in meat soup called in the area as the abgusht. This food item will surely appeal to the more adventurous type of traveler. In order to get the best experience, its best to try some of the famous chela kababis and eating places in the city like the Amir, the Bozorg-e Shahr and the Ehasan in Ahmad Abad Street.
