Warangal Travel Guide, India
Warangal (also famous by the names of Ekasila Nagaram and Orugallu) is one of the many cities in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India.
Local leaders have been requesting the central government to give Telangana region the status of a separate state but the central government kept on delaying their old promise.
Back to Warangal, this city is located around 150 kilometers from the capital of Andhra Pradesh, Hyderabad. Warangal happens to grab the fourth position when it comes to most populated cities of Andhra Pradesh.
Warangal is surrounded by district of Khammam from eastern and south eastern side, district of Karimnagar from the northern side, district of Medak from the western side, district of Nalgonda from the south western side.
The city of Warangal largely depends on agriculture for its economical growth. Rice is the most predominant product that the farmers of this region depend on. They grow rice for their personal kitchens as well as to sell it in the market. There is actually a huge market of rice in south India and no south Indian meal is said to be complete without rice.
Cotton was also one of the most talked about crops amongst the farmers but recently a downfall in the cotton market has been experienced. Many farmers committed suicide during the period between 1997 and 1998. These suicides were highly publicized by the media and the government of those days had to take up lots of beating for these cases. Many packages were released to help the farmers who were suffering due to crashed cotton market but nothing actually helped. Everything was on papers. The cotton sector of Warangal is still trying to stand up back on its feet.
Software Technology Park of India has started the NIT (National Institute of Technology) in the city of Warangal and this has surely increased the importance of the city on the educational map of the country.
