The literacy rate of Tirupur is around 76 percent which is much more than the national literacy rate (which is around 60%). The municipal population of Tirupur is very new even when the city is quiet old. The municipal corporation of Tirupur was launched right on the day when year 2008 started i.e. 1st January, 2008.

Tirupur might be small city in terms of area and population when compared to rest of the cities of India but still this tiny land has been successful in mastering the knitwear industry of India and parts of this planet also. Almost every knitwear brand of this planet has something or the other related to this small city.

Noyyal River divides the city into two halves. Another important landmark of the city is Jeva Bay Higher Sec School. The important feature of this school is it has second highest number of students (in one single school) when compared to all the schools of this planet. The important feature of this school is that isn’t a co-ed school but a school only for girls.

Tamil is the mother tongue of those born in this city but English is also a leading language for the city. The city has many personal local language channels. Also the regular national channels which run in Hindi are also broadcast in this city.
