Raurkela Sights and Landmarks Guide, India

Although one will see the name of Rourkela being mentioned on documents which refer to industries and related stuff, that doesn’t mean that Rourkela has no tourist spot. The city of Rourkela has enough temples and other natural plus manmade hot spots which regularly attract visitors.

Around 30 kilometers from Rourkela is located the Mandira Dam which was built on Shankh River. The huge dam and the lake which was built by SAIL authorities for fishing and storing water during rainy seasons attract huge number of visitors regularly due to the scenic beauty which surrounds the structure. The best time to visit the dam is summers when water is regularly released into Bramani River. The sight is worth watching when all the gates of this dam are opened. Boating facility is also available in the water reservoir thus attracting more and more tourists.

Another famous picnic spot is Darjing. This spot is located around 23 kilometers from the region of Bonaigarh and it is located on the sides of Brahmani River. The beauty of the river and the surroundings are enough to attract many people towards it. Darjing regularly experiences huge number of tourists and is a famous tourist spot for Rourkela.

The ruin of Fort Dasaraja Garh which is located somewhere in Vedvyas is another famous tourist spot although illegal construction has popped up on the land where the fort was built some years back. There are many stories attached with this fort and all this acts as perfect ingredients to attract good amount of tourists.

The Ahirabandh Jagannath Temple which is located in 3rd Sector of the city is another important tourist as well as religious spot. There was a time when the village of Ahirabandh was flourishing around the temple. Some years back Aiyappa Temple was constructed by South Indians living in that area. This temple has slowly gained fame for its beautiful design. There are many other temples which are located in this sector and the chain of these temples makes 3rd Sector an important religious hub of Rourkela.

Some other famous temples located in and around Rourkela are Hanuman Vatika, Balaji temple, Lakhmi Narayan Temple, Shiv Temple, and Maa Santoshi Temple.

 Many festivals are regularly organized by these temples and these festivals attract thousands of devotees towards them. The sight is worth watching for any foreign tourist.
