Nagpur, India – Sights

Owing to its production of fruit, Nagpur is often referred to as the ‘orange growing capital of India’. The city of Nagpur derives its name from the river Nag. The city is situated on the banks of the watercourse and was founded in the year 1702. The city was founded by Bhakt Buland who was a famous Gond prince. Bhakt Buland belonged to the Deogad kingdom, originating from the Chhindwara district. The city of Nagpur served as the capital city for the realm of the Bhonsle clan who came from the Maratha Confederacy.

Subsequently, during the time of the British colonial rule over India, the city of Nagpur was included into the territory functioning under the control of the British Empire. Remnants of the rule still survive, and perhaps the most famous of them all is the majestic British fort that was constructed on the twin hills of Sitabuldi in the heart of the city. The fort was created in the year 1818 and serves as a recognizable milestone of the city.

Apart from the British fort at the Sitabuldi hills, the city of Nagpur is proud to house some other extremely well known and much appreciated tourist sports as well. With a plethora of sightseeing opportunities to choose from, Nagpur is a beautiful place, calm, ensuring a satisfying and peaceful vacation to those who visit it.

Because of an assortment of fortresses and temples, the city of Nagpur has been acclaimed as one of the more popular tourist destinations in India. A famous spot is the Ambazari Lake which can be found at a distance of 6 kilometers to the West of the city of Nagpur. The Ambazari Lake holds the distinction of being the largest, most beautiful and exceptionally serene lake in and around the city of Nagpur. The Ambazari Lake has a garden next to which serves the purpose of being a place to spend some leisure time at and is also an ideal place to bring young children as it has been developed into a small- scale amusement park.

There is a variety of electric rides and also some video- game arcade- style games for children to keep them busy. The park is an ideal center for outdoor activity as it has some wonderful paths and trails, especially in the evenings. The park is also appealing because of the boating opportunities that tend to attract many.
