Mysore was one of those few regions where the kings enjoyed their status even after Indian Independence. Mysore is famous amongst the foreign tourists due to its historical monuments and the beautiful surroundings.
The most famous tourist hot spot for the city of Mysore is the auspicious Mysore Palace. Entry to palace is through the southern gate and shoes plus camera (including camera phones) aren’t permitted in the historical palace. The complete area in which the palace is spread is enlightened by around 100000 bulbs during Sundays and other National Holidays which gives the palace a look which anyone would love to watch at least once in his / her life. The palace is famous for its uniquely designed rosewood doors, awesome ivory works, marble designs on walls, and various collections of paintings of those people who used to live in this palace. All these are worth watching at least once for anyone who hits the city of Mysore.
Another important tourist attraction is the Jagmohan Palace which is now also being used to house a art gallery. Tourists get attracted towards the palace due to its design and wonderful collection of arts which have been compiled from the collections of various famous artists of India.
Some other famous museums of Mysore are National Museum of Natural History (which is totally dedicated for history of plants and animals), Rail Museum (which is dedicated to the complete history of Indian Railways), Folk Art Museum (it was opened for general public in the year 1968 and it is famous for various folk related manuscripts), Oriental Research Institute (it was founded in 1891 and it houses around 33000 manuscripts of palm leaf).
Another famous tourist hot spot is Mysore Zoo. This zoo has succeeded in attracting many tourists in the past. The zoo has its own breeding program and it has animals brought in from around 40 countries of this planet. 35 species of ornamental plants in the Botanical Garden is another major attraction in this zoo.
