Moradabad Travel Guide, India

Established somewhere in the year 1600 under Mughal Empire by Murad, a prince and son of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, Moradabad happens to be a city and a municipal corp. for Moradabad district under the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It was due to the name of its founder Murad that the city is said to have been given the name of Moradabad. This city might not be very important in terms of trade or education for the country but due to its proximity to the capital of India, Moradabad has somehow succeeded in preserving its name and importance on the India map.

As per the latest consensus of the year 2001, Moradabad has a population of around 650000 inhabitants. The literacy rate of Moradabad (which is 52 percent) is below the national literacy rate (60 percent) which has always been a concern for the city.

Population of Moradabad is around 1 million which is a true mix of every religion. You name a religion and the city has some percentage of population for that religion. The city of Moradabad is also documented to be the largest handicraft exporter on the national level. All these features have surely helped Moradabad come out of its not-so-famous-city tag.

Moradabad is located just 170 kilometers from New Delhi, the capital of India, and is situated on the sides of River Ramganga (which is one of the many tributaries of the famous River Ganga). The only famous business for the inhabitants of Moradabad is brass handicrafts that are of export quality. Most of the brass handicrafts manufactured in Moradabad are exported to Europe, North America, and the rest of the planet wherever brass lovers are found. Due to the huge brass export business, Moradabad has also been given the tag of City of Brass or more precisely the Peetal Nagri in its local language Hindi.

Slowly, lots of educational institutions have opened up in Moradabad due to the growing economy of the city and many have been recognized on the national level. The city has 2 engineering colleges, 2 management colleges, 2 medical colleges, 2 degree colleges, and 25 schools. This actually turns out to be a huge number for a city like Moradabad. The city also has 4 hospitals which are ready 24 x 7 to serve those who want treatment.
