Gorakhpur Travel Guide, India
Gorakhpur is a city which lies in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. Gorakhpur is one of those cities of India which is the hub of almost every religion which is being followed in India. The city of Gorakhpur is the home for Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh, and Jain saints. This city got its name from Gorakshanath (also known by the name of Gorakhnath) who was a dedicated Nath Yogi between the 11th and 12th century. The temple named after Gorakhnath (called as Gorakhnath Temple) has been the center of Nath tradition since ages.
Gorakhpur is spread over an area of around 3500 kilometer square and as a population of around 3,700,000 inhabitants as per the consensus of the year 2001. The literacy rate of Gorakhpur is way below the literacy rate of the country. The literacy rate of Gorakhpur is around 43 percent while that of India is around 60 percent.
The famous saint Paramhans Yoganand was born in Gorakhpur itself. Many famous Buddhist related monuments and sites are part of the city. Gorakhpur has also played an important role in the Indian Independence during the early years of 20th century.
Although the economy of Gorakhpur hasn’t hit any milestones (and its literacy rate proves that) but Gorakhpur is one of those cities of India which are slowly but steadily gaining recognition on the national level. The advantage which Gorakhpur has is the geographical location of the city which will surely help Gorakhpur grow in the future.
Gorakhpur has been famous for the man made fabric. Hathkargha is a kind of manual loom, which is used by people of Gorakhpur to manufacture the hand made fabric, and it is extensively used in this city. Gorakhpur is also famous for various Terracota products which are also extensively being manufactured in the city.
Gorakhpur is one of the not so famous cities of India which is slowly taking steps towards success.
