Bhavnagar happens to be located in Gujarat and is said to have been founded somewhere in the year of 1723 A.D. Bhavsinhji Gohil was the king responsible for laying the foundation of this city and hence the city received the name Bhavnagar from the name of its ruler itself.

Bhavnagar State is documented to be the first of the many princely states that merged with the Union of India after the independence of India in the year 1947. The city of Bhavnagar was the capital of the Bhavnagar State before this state finally got merged with the Indian Union during the year of 1948.

Saurashtra region is located on the western coast of India, somewhere near the Arabian Sea. Bhavnagar is considered to be the cultural capital of Saurashtra.

Bhavnagar is spread over an area of around 53 square kilometers and Gulf of Khambhat lies on the North Eastern side of the city. A very small river called as Kansara Nala is responsible to divide the city into two halves.

Like the rest of the country, Bhavnagar also experiences hot summers from the month of March to that of June. Monsoon is experienced between the months of June and October when the average rainfall of the city is around 550 mm. Winter arrives somewhere in the month of November and stays till the month of February. Humidity is low during these months and the average temperate stays around 20 degree Celsius. This is the most bearable season and the season which is enjoyed the most by the locals of Bhavnagar.

Gujarati is the most used language in Bhavnagar like the rest of Gujarat although Hindi is understood by most of the locals. English is also prevalent in the city due to the booming tourism industry. But not every local of Bhavnagar can speak English. It is the educated class of the city which is good at speaking and understanding English.

The city of Bhavnagar is famous for its historical culture and its hard working students. It is due to the historical culture of Bhavnagar that this city is called as the cultural capital of Saurashtra.
