Aligarh is a not a large city located in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. Aligarh is famous on national and international level due to its University which has created a mark everywhere and the various lock firms which are renowned worldwide. Similarly, Aligarh Muslim University is one of the most famous universities of India and can be compared to the Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) and National Institute of Technology (NITs). 

There are many tourist hot spots in the city like the famous Aligarh Fort and the uniquely built Mosque named Sir Syed Masjid which lies in the University Campus.

Another important tourist spot is an old fort that is nowadays in total ruins. Built somewhere in 1524, the Dor Fort is located right in the center of the city but somehow has lost its touch due to its deteriorating condition. The city of Aligarh is also famous for various tombs built by Muslim Saints many years ago.

Aligarh is very famous amongst tourist for namkeens and sweets (both happen to be famous snacks in India and have important position in India’s culture) that the city offers. Famous and old shops like Khyaliram’s and Kunjilal’s etc. are the cities leader in sweets market. Similarly, the famous Babboo and Dabboo are the leaders of namkeen market.

The month of January brings the Annual Cultural Exhibition that has now become a regular event. This exhibition, or the so called numaish in local language, is one of the most awaited events of Aligarh and is visited by many local inhabitants and foreign tourists too.

There are many markets in Aligarh which are also famous amongst tourist who regularly pour into the University City. Some of these markets are Amir Nisha, Railway Road market, Center Point Market, and the famous Shamshad market.

Aligarh has slowly become an important tourist destination and its proximity to New Delhi (capital of India) makes it easier for foreign tourists to visit the city.
