The Place Puget is the old center of Toulon where can you find a 1780 fountain. There were three dolphins in its sculpture, which are now covered with ivy. You can find the Saint Marie de la Seds Cathedral near the Place Puget, which was built in the 11th century but was never completed. As the Roman Empire began to fall the area was invaded by barbarians and Toulon, which was now unprotected, became the target of many attacks by the Saracen Muslims and also by pirates.  In 1095, the Toulon Cathedral was built.  Almost 400 years later, the region in which Toulon resides was made into an official French province.  read more
