Strasbourg, France - Overview

The main fame of France lies in its beautiful and exotic locales and it is supposed to be one of the most ethereally picturesque countries of the world. At the same time, it also happens to be a romantic heaven on earth and is the world’s undisputed seat of culture and avant-garde movements in the fields of painting, literature, and music.

Situated close to the French-German border, Strasbourg is a quaint charming city that is steeped in history. It is the capital of the ALSACE province in northeastern France and hosts a famous WTA tennis tournament, prior to the French Open.

Strasbourg has a moderate climate and welcomes throngs of tourists throughout the year. In fact, this French-German city with a shared history, is a hit with tourists because of its year round comfortable climate and different local festivals and major cultural events, musical soirees, theater  and opera extravaganzas that dot the culture-conscious city’s cultural program itinerary whose season starts in  October and continues till May.

If you are fond of classical music, you can catch the International Music Festival, a very big and renowned event in Strasbourg in the month of June with umpteen numbers of concerts, choral performances, weekly poetry reading sessions.  Needless to say, Strasbourg is a music lover’s paradise and the month of November hosts the jazz festival of Jazz d’Or.

The summer months till September will regale you with entertainments galore, starting with the VOIX ROMANE festivities-a celebration of the shared German and French regional heritage, culture and history and culminating in September with the Festival of Contemporary Music held at the historic site of Palais de la Musique ET des Congres.

Some sights of historic interest in Strasbourg that will fascinate you and which you may like to visit are Eglise Saint-Thomas, Cour du Corbeau, The Gothic Notre-Dame Cathedral, Ancienne Douane, Palais de Rohan, La Petite France, Terrasse Panoramique du Barrage Vauban, Grande ile, Palais de I’ Europe, Maison Kammerzell, Parc de l’Orangerie, Place de la Republique, La Vaisseau, Musee Alsacien, Musee Archeologique, Musee d’Art Moderne et Contemporain, Musee des Arts Decoratifs, Musee des Beaux-Arts, Musee de l’Oeuvre Notre-Dame, Musee Zoologique, Musee Historique etc.  Most of these architectural wonders are standing testimonies of and pay a rich tribute to medieval and gothic architectural influences as well as roman architectural influence. This old historic city is a perfect blend of a slice of war ravaged and scarred history and peaceful contemporary life and witnessed growth and advancement during the era of the Industrial Revolution.

It´s a lovely city with it´s own charme. Showing you an intersting inner city with it´s old buildings it´s an attraction itself. Besides that you can do alot of shopping, during that the man can enjoy a coffe at one of the restaurants. You should also visit the 'Musée des Beaux-Arts', showing old paintings. You should also try the 'Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg'.
People are friendly and so an stay there is absolutely to recommend.
Train connection for Strassburg is very good, because the railway has got an important connection point there.
