Rouen, France – Overview

Barely two hours northwest of Paris is a beautiful city of Rouen. Although the city is called home by more than half million citizens, the city still has that rural feeling. The structures and the way general way of living of the locals continuously enchant those who visit Rouen for the week. Aside from cars, Rouen is also accessible by train which is a lot more comfortable. The train that goes to Rouen is at the St. Lazare Station. It is advisable to purchase tickets as early as possible as the particular train station could be confusing to first time travelers.

The city of Rouen is not difficult to trek for tourists. Getting around the city is possible even on foot. You can also rent bike or a scooter if you’re staying there for a week or two but you’ll notice that most tourists just do it on foot when they travel to different parts of the city.

The Rouen Cathedral is the most popular among the structures. The façade of the structure was painted by no less than Claude Monet. Be sure to visit the place in the afternoon as the sun influences your view of the painting. A for Church of Joan of Arc is also located in the city. Right beside the church is the mark where the great saint was burned at stake. For literary masterpieces, visit the home of Gustave Flaubert. Known for his controversial novel, Madame Bovary, his home is currently a museum for literature and medicine. Part of the structure has been dedicated to medicine since Flaubert’s father and brother were doctors.

One of the best reasons why you should be visiting Rouen is the holistic healing experience. Barely an hour from the city is an Ayurvedic center. This alternative healing approach is great for those who have diseases as well as those who just wanted to have a relaxing time.

Last but not the least; be sure to visit Rouen during the weekends. During these market days, the city becomes alive as traders from different parts of Rouen come to sell their vegetables and fresh fruits. There are also restaurants that become crowded during these days but would be a great way for the tourists to visit as they bring out the best of their traditional cuisines for their patrons.
