Pontivy, France - Overview

France is a place, which is quite wonderful to visit in our vacation, due to its simplicity and extravagance at the same time. There are various places in France that cannot be compared to any other places across the globe along with others that are quite popular even though they are pretty simple like that of the small town of Pontivy.

The town has been named after a monk Ivy, who had constructed a bridge over the Blavet River, because in French “Pont” means bridge. However, the name was changed after Napoleon Bonaparte became the ruler to Napoleonville, but got changed back again to Pontivy. During Napoleon’s era, there had been other names given to this place in the form of Bourbonville and Napoleonville under the rule of Napoleon III. This characteristic place had 3000 occupants at the time of Napoleon but has increased to over 13,000 currently.

For a place like Pontivy, it is not possible to house many attractive sights that could be visited, but there are definitely few that would be worth visiting. Among these tourist sights the most popular are the Saint Joseph church, Basilica of the Notre-Dame-de-Joie and the famous Castle of Rohan. Each of these buildings is uniquely built and shows the artistry and craftsmanship of the French workers. It is to be noted that the place is best considered to be the silent escapade of many tourists, and the locals mix well with each of the tourists and share their life with them.

There are various places by the side of the River Blavet, where one could find small shops to buy different individual items. The banks of the river are paved with brick footpaths for allowing the tourists to enjoy a leisurely walk down the passage. The most interesting part of Pontivy is its consistency. Whenever you go to the place, you will find it to be exactly the same way you had left it.

Tourists find the place to be very interesting, as there is no hustle-bustle like the metropolitans that you visit, and the crime rate is also equivalent to negligible at Pontivy. Other than these features there are places where tourists could go to visit keeping Pontivy as the central point.

No matter where you go the unique night life at Pontivy is something that you would never forget. This is the reason for tourists to take short trips from the town and come back there by night.
