Most of the visitors who go to Poitiers are in their way for the Futuroscope, one of France’s biggest thematic parks. Although Poitiers is not even close to clubbers dreamland (see the Paris Travel Guide and Paris Nightlife articles if you feel you’re in this category!), it still has enough places where you can have a drink, a nice meal and some fun. A main characteristic of Poitires nightlife is given by the city’s intense cultural life.

Poitiers Nightlife – Cultural Activities and Events

If there’s one domain at which Poitiers excels, that’s definitely theatre. There are 20 theater groups in Poitiers that offer professional and amateur performances for every taste. La Theatre Scene Nationale has several buildings across Poitiers, hosting plays, as well as concerts and shows. In summer, theatre companies give free outdoor representations, during the many festivals that are being held in Poitiers’ gardens and parks. Contemporary dance is also well represented in Poitiers, so if you happend to be there during a dance festival, don’t miss the chance to watch a performance. The main cinemas in Poitiers are Cinema G.R.C. Le Castille, Cinema Le Dietrich and Le Theatre Scene Nationale, with the latter two cinemas playing a wide selection of art films.

Poitiers Nightlife – Dining Out

The local cuisine is represented by simple, rustic dishes, based on ingredients like butter, nut oil, cheese, melons, mutton and Poitou wine. High class restaurants include La Taverne de Maitre Kanter, Passions et Gourmandisses, La Chenaie, Le Bois de la Marche. The famous melted cheese (fromage fondue) can be tasted at Au Refuge and Le Montagnard. The tasty French pancakes (crepes) are to be found in places like Fleur de Ble, La Bigorne or La grange aux Dames. International cuisine is represented by Le Temple Celeste (Chinese), L’Auberge Espagnole (Spanish), India and Le Raja (Indian), Bistro Pasta and Piccolino (Italian) or La Fibule d’Eden (Morrocan).

There is a wide range of bars in Poitiers: sports bars, cocktail bars, music bars, lounge bars, internet cafes or latino bars. Many of these bars host concerts or hire their own bands to entertain the customers; so it’s the case of: Le Prince Oreille, Les Bacchantes, Irish Corner, Cap Vert, La Casa, Cluricaume Café. Fruity Club, Au Bureau, La Gazette, Aux Sixties, L’Istambul are the most popular meeting places for Poitiers’ students. Even if enjoying a drink and some good music is the standard for Poitiers nightlife, the 24hour party people must know that there are several bars that stay open until late at night: Le Tisonnier, Relax Bar or Café In.
