Paris has a very deep and rich history, most of its must-visit sights have a story to tell, and they are widely known all over the world.

Paris is a very compact place which makes it easy for tourists to walk through all the sites in a number of days.

Eiffel Tower   This was built to commemorate the French Revolutions in 1889.  Widely known around the globe, it was once the highest manmade structure until 1930 with a height of 300 meters.  It’s worth 7000 tons of steels, requires 40 tons of paint and takes 1652 steps to reach the top and was built during a period of more than two years by hundreds of workers.

Arc de Triomphe   This was built by Napoleon in 1806 to commemorate victories and names of the Generals.  It is the world’s largest traffic roundabout.

The Louvre   This is most likely the most famous and celebrated museum in the world and the second largest.  It houses most of the famous paintings known to man like the Mona Lisa.

Saint Chapelle   This is located near Notre Dame.  Though small, it is very famous due to its breathtaking stained glass windows and vaulted ceilings.  These features are assumed to be the most beautiful in the whole world.

Notre Dame Cathedral   Reaching the top would give you amazing views of Paris and take a closer look with its famous gargoyles.  It took over 180 years to build this cathedral.

Musee Picasso (Picasso Museum)   The place holds most of Picasso’s works together with his own private art collection.

Paris Opera House   This is the home of The Phantom of the Opera.  It may be small but it is very famous in the city of Paris.  Nowadays, it is being used as a venue for private functions or cultural shows.

Pere Lachaise  It is the most famous Paris cemetery as it serves as an open park due to thousands of trees.  Most famous Parisians are buried here like Chopin and Oscar Wilde.

Jardin du Luxembourg   The largest park in Paris at 55 acres that features historic fountains and a few other activities.

The Latin Quarter   During the early days, it used to be known as the area for university students but modern times converted it to become a hub of clubs, bars, cafes, and some bookshops that tourists will surely love.

Champs-Elysees   This avenue is not in itself a historical site but tourists would be fond of the area having a lineup of expensive establishments.

Place de la Concorde   Located along Seine River, it was constructed back in 1748 to hold an equestrian statue of Louis XV.  This is considered to be one of the greatest achievements during the Enlightenment Period.

Paris Catacombs   This location used to be limestone quarries, but was filled with the bones of millions of dead Parisians when the cemeteries became full.  It’s an underground tunnel which also includes the metro’s sewage system.

Parks of Buttes-Chaumont and Bois de Boulogne   These parks boast of various feasts of flowers and trees.  Tourists can also enjoy activities in the park like bike rentals, swimming pools and cafes are strategically located as well.

  • eratowalking up to the Eiffel Tower is cheaper >> added on August 14, 2009, by erato
If you want to visit the Eiffel Tower you better take your time and walk up on the stairs, it's much more fun and beautiful then taking simple the elevator, although, stairs go only until the second floor, not to the top. It lasts more for sure to climb the stairs but anyway you have to stay in lines for some hours before getting up to the tower. And it is cheaper as well, 4.5 Euro for adults, 3.5 Euro for youths btw. 12-24 and 3 Euro for children.
  • danpopLouvre free of charge for art students >> added on June 30, 2009, by danpop
If you want to visit Louvre and you're an art student, then I have a good news for you: the entry is for free. But be careful, not every kind of student has this privilege, only students at Art, Sculpture, or anything that resembles Art.
  • danpopentry fee for Notre Dame de Paris >> added on June 30, 2009, by danpop
While going inside Notre Dame de Paris is free of charge, climbing the towers costs 5.5 euros. It's not much compared to what you see (This is only from what I heard from other friends that climbed up there, we were in a hurry and it was a line there so we left. But nevertheless, try it.)
  • danpopThe ugly gardians on Notre Dame >> added on June 30, 2009, by danpop
On top of the Notre Dame Cathedral In Paris, you can see some really ugly creatures that look like a devil. One can wonder what are those doing on top of a christian chuch. The purpose is to throw away the water and they are said to guard the church. For me they are just plain old creepy things.
  • danpopView from Arc de Triomphe on Eiffel Tower >> added on June 30, 2009, by danpop
Many say that the view from Arc de Triomphe over Paris is much more interesting and nicer than the view from the Eiffel Tower. I must disagree with this statement, even if I heard it myself. The truth is that from the 50 meters of the Arc you can see clearly the marvelous buildings, but the view from 324 meters of the Eiffel Tower is simply breathtaking.
