Nimes stands on a Roman road called Via Domitia that is as old as 118 B.C. For many, Nimes is a name known for Denim jeans. The city was the first one to give the world the Denim cloth. The word Denim is actually derived from De Nimes. Although, the town’s passion remains to be bull fighting that not only attracts the locals but large number of foreign visitors every year, but there is lot of other things explore and see in the city.

The city portrays the finest Roman architecture in its old buildings and monuments. Maison Carree or the Temple of Nimes is definitely one of the most elegantly built monuments in France. 

Infrastructure

Nimes suffered economic crisis in the nineteenth century. The political and religious agitations in the town gave an added set back to the development of the town. But gradually, Nimes got back on the smoother path and industries in the region started flourishing in the mid nineteenth century. In the twentieth century, the wine and the textile industry played an important role in giving a boost to the economic development of the town. Today the town has good infrastructure facilities for its citizens as well as tourists.
