Marseille is regarded as the second most celebrated and most populated city in France after Paris. It is also the largest port on the Mediterranean and it has a breathtaking landscape that embraces sweeping coastal views and mountains which are really a must-see.

Travel

A trip to Marseille is easy. This city's main airport is The Marseille-Provence International Airport which has direct flights from over 80 destinations.  The flights are mostly across France and other European cities. The main transporter is Air France.  The airport has three terminals which serve domestic, international and low cost flights.

Gare de Marseille Saint-Charles, the main rail line of Marseille and it has several stops across France which includes Paris, Nice, Valence, and others.  The city also has two metro lines which are called the blue line and the orange line.  There are also provincial buses travel from Marseille to different towns like Aix-en-Provence, Avignon, Arles, Cassis, Digne-les-Bains and Carpentras.

Climate

People can go to Marseille in whatever time of the year they choose to because the city's weather is almost always pleasant. With a Mediterranean climate, the summer season is hot and dry, and the winter season is mild and humid. The hottest months are during July and August. However, it is still bearable because of the sea and the fresh mistral wind. On the other hand, the coldest months are during January and February.

Annual Events

Wouldn't it be fun to visit a place and be on time to watch the city's grandest festivals and other events? Visiting Marseille is bound to be fun all-year round. The city celebrates special event almost every month.   Every February, they have the Fête de la Chandeleur.  March is a month for Carnaval de Marseille.  April hosts Semaine Nautique Internationale de Marseille (Watersports event).  June is a time for Foire a l'Ail (Garlic fair), Fête de la Musique (free concerts) and Fête du Panier.

July holds the Festival de Marseille (cultural events), Bastille Day (fireworks), and Mondial de Pétanque (petanque tournament).  September is a time for Fête du Vent (kite flying and other wind related events), Journée Nationale du Patrimoine (heritage day), Juris Cup (sailing regatta) and Semi-marathon Marseille Cassis (running event).  October caters to Festival de Musique Sacrée (church music, various churches) and Fiesta des Suds (world music festival).   November and December closes the year with Foire aux Santons (traditional clay figurine fair), Christmas Market and Crêches et Pastorales (nativity scenes).

Attractions

Marseille is one of the major centers of art and history around the globe. But aside from galleries and museums, the city also houses vast number of theatres. Here are the top tourist spots that you should visit when in Marseille: The old place of Abbaye de St-Victor; Basilique Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde; The Port Le Vieux; Cathédrale de la Major; Chateau d’If; La Canebiere; Palais Longchamp; The ancient ruins in Jardin des Vestiges; Parc Borely; and Estienne d'Orves.

For anyone who could not understand French, the events and the attractions may sound weird.  Nonetheless, they are classy and elegant for the ears to listen to.  The above mentioned things spell the difference for Marseille, France.
