Angers Nightlife, France

Angers nightlife means a mixed-baggage of entertainment. Do not just sit comparing Angers nightlife to Paris or Rennes nightlife; better go dancing, drinking or enjoying a concert or just quietly watch a movie in a city-theater after an exhausting day of sightseeing. Head for places like place du Ralliement or rue St. Laud, where most of the city bars, cafés and clubs are located. You will get to socialize with the locals as well as international students at these city clubs and drinking holes, which mostly entertain guests till 3 to 4 A.M.

Angers Nightlife – Popular Bars/Pubs

Speaking of bars, we must first name the area’s famous Irish pubs – James Joyce, L'Inishmore, L’Kent and Matt Murphy's.

James Joyce stands at the far end of Boulevard Foch. The ambience is really nice, something that attracts student-groups. A lot of Irish music is played or else you can catch some sporting action on the pub’s big screen TV. Matt Murphy's is close by (in fact, at the other end of Boulevard Foch); although the pub is pretty simple, people flock to it for its good food.

Just off Rue Bressigny (on a street named Rue Chateaugontier) stands L'Inishmore. It is a lively little bar with bands playing popular Irish music. The bar also has TV sets, but if you crave for some live action just go to the back area where the locals gather to play darts. L’Kent, on the other hand, is famous for the different whiskey-brands and its special beer varieties.

Other popular bars in Angers are Falstaff and L’Sunset Pub. Both bars are frequented by locals as well as foreigners.

Angers Nightlife – Clubs/Discotheques

Visiting Angers’ nightclubs like Disco L’Boléro, Disco L'Ecu de Bretagne, Disco L’Metro and Disco L’Plage can really mean a lot of fun. None of the places are really big, but the atmosphere is worth catching. Drinks are served at all Angers’ nightclubs but they are a little bit pricey; one good idea will be to have your drinks at a bar before you drop in at a club.

While L’Bolero (at 38 rue St-Laud) is particularly popular with singles, L'Ecu de Bretagne, at 8 place Vigan, welcomes people of all age-groups. Another good place to go out dancing is L’Metro (at Les Grandes Noues); they even have their own bus-service. Disco L’Plage is at 6 Rue Louis Romain and here you do not have any entry fees.

Angers Nightlife – Special Attractions

The special attraction of Angers nightlife is certain ‘The Chabada’ – the perfect destination for music buffs.

The city’s Salsa bars also deserve a special mention. The fun-factor at these bars is that you can actually join in. While some, like Soft Bar on Rue Bressigny, have expert dancers doing the dance-shows others like Casa de Cuba on Boulevard Foch even give free Salsa lessons.
