Tampere, Finland - Nightlife

Tampere is a city with a great nightlife and it is a city that is definitely worth visiting just for the nightlife. Part of the reason for this is that night does not falls over the city during the summer months. The midnight sun effect does not reach Tampere completely since it is not north of the Arctic Circle boundary, but the most of the darkness you will ever see during the summer months in Tampere is a few hours of twilight during the late night and early morning. It is bright during the rest of the day and that no doubt contributes to the fantastic summer nightlife that this particular city enjoys.

One of the ways in which this manifests itself is the fact that there are many terraces available for people to use in Tampere. To see evidence of this, all you have to do is look around when the first warmer days of spring arrive and you will see restaurants setting up chairs and tables outside on terraces that have been built into restaurants, bars, pubs and cafes. All of these terraces are fully used during the summer as people sit outside, talk to each other and chug down a few beers. All in all, this is part of the Tampere nightlife during the summer months and it is definitely something you will want to try with friends.

Of course, this is not to say that Tampere misses its classical nightlife venues. There are many great pubs around in the city, such as Plevna. This is actually a combination brewery and pub that is located inside what used to be a textile mill and because of that, it owns several different microbrews that you can only get within that particular pub. If you want to taste real Finnish brewing goodness, this is definitely the place to go.

There are also many nightclubs around, the most popular one probably being Ilves. This nightclub is famous for playing whatever happens to be at the top of the charts at that moment and since the music is very recognizable, it is definitely a good place to be. If you would rather spend time with the younger generation of people in their twenties, Onnela is definitely the place to go. It is a large nightclub just like Ilves, but the different styles of music that are played in the club tend to make it more popular with younger people.
