Espoo Sights and Landmarks Guide, Finland

One of the wonderful things about travelling to a place like Espoo is that it is right next to the capital, the largest city and main tourist destination of the country.  For this reason, all of the sights that are available in Helsinki are also accessible to you quite easily should you want to spend the majority of your journey in Espoo.

However, this does not mean that Espoo is a barren wasteland when it comes to sights; far from it, in fact.  One of the major reasons why people visit the city of Helsinki is to be blown away by the natural wonder of the place, but while they are doing this many forget to visit the city of Espoo and all of the wonderful natural sights that it has.  For example, the Nuuksio National Park is located in Espoo and its forty-five kilometers of land are visited by about 200,000 people every single year.  It is particularly breathtaking in the autumn months.

Another interesting place to visit in Espoo is the Helsinki University of Technology.  Don't let the name fool you, as this campus is actually located in Espoo.  It is a very interesting building from an architectural standpoint and it is also home to one of the most prestigious institutions of its kind in the world.  There are actually many people that combine a vacation to Espoo with a visit to this university, especially if there are families with children on the verge of finishing high school.

In addition to natural and educational sighs, Espoo is also home to architecture of wondrous sorts from corporate sources.  It is in fact the place where both Nokia (a cell phone company) and Fortum (an energy company) are headquartered and the buildings of both organizations are quite spectacular.  With its sloping roof, the Fortum HQ is in fact one of the most photographed buildings in Espoo and a tour of the Nokia headquarters is always a very entertaining experience.

Finally, if you thought the Helsinki stadia were interesting in a sporting sense, you definitely need to head out to Espoo and take a closer look at what they have.  Lansi Auto Arena is the home of the Espoo Blues, a team that plays in the highest ice hockey league in Finland.  It is a very spectacular arena with a fantastic exterior and a beautiful interior, as well as a place that is home to boisterous crowds that you can sometimes hear outside on a quiet night.

As you can see, Espoo is certainly no stick in the mud when it comes to the presentation of places that are a feast on the senses.
