Copenhagen is the capital of Denmark as well as the location of many government buildings, including the Parliament Building and the Main Palace of the reigning royals. But more than that, it is a city that delights most tourists. The spirit of the people of Copenhagen is reflected in this clean and safe city. It has a high standard of living, reflected by the general expense of food, drink and lodging, but in spite of the costliness, it is routinely voted one of the best places to live worldwide and a favorite tourist destination.

Copenhagen is a seaport on the eastern coast of Denmark, on the island of Sealand. It has recently been connected to Malmo, Sweden by a  bridge and a tunnel, the Øresund Bridge, which create a joint Danish Swedish  metropolitan community. The city is divided into 15 administrative districts and has several neighborhoods with unique characterizes. Vesterbro is a design area where many shops are connected to the designer's workshops. Frederiksburg is a fine residential area composed of  elegant homes and a few high end shops. Osterbro is another area of small select shops and Norrebro is Copenhagen's melting pot, with many races and ethnicities represented. The shops and restaurants tend to be exotic. Strøget, located in the center of Copenhagen is the main pedestrian street with many small streets adjacent, where many shops, boutiques, and cafes are located.  There is a network of connecting pedestrian streets planned by architect Jan Gehl that give Copenhagen a relaxed air seldom found in such a large city. The absence of automobiles and their noise and pollution, makes these areas perfect for strolling, picnicking or just having a conversation. Street performers abound in the afternoon and evenings to display their musical, acrobatic and other talents, giving the areas near the Strøget a festival atmosphere.

Copenhagen has an excellent public transport system and offers affordable day passes that are valid on all of the trains and buses. The roads are clearly marked and augmented by a system of bicycle routes that make this a viable and desirable form of transport around the city. Copenhagen is full of monuments, museum, castles and public garden that provide tourist destinations. There are free puppet theaters, seasonal music festival, markets and a large venue of sport teams that give a variety of entertainment choices. The dining possibilities are international and nearly endless, with taverns, pubs and bars that stay open nearly 24 hours daily.

  • zsoldicsaTivoli Gardens >> added on November 19, 2009, by zsoldicsa
Tivoli Garden is the oldest of the amusement parks in the world, they say that Walt Disney got his idea of Disneyland from here. It is situated in the center of Copenhagen and is the favorite of locals and tourists as well.

They have an 80m high carousel, it is incredible! It is called the Himelskibet and moves with a speed of 70km/h, man feels sick only watching it.

The Gardens give home to all sorts of events, in the summer season, there are stages for performers of pantomime, dance shows and even ballet.

The fireworks and lots of games are fantastic. The whole part is amazing, actually, if you are with kids or you are a big kid in your heart yourself.

The place is very clean and constructed with very good taste, no wonder, it is 100 years old and also has nice bars and restaurants, which are not expensive compared to places outside the park.
