Paphos, Cyprus - Overview: Birthplace of Aphrodite

The city of Paphos is very famous, as it is the birthplace of Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of beauty and love. The political aspect of the city has been bifurcated with the upper section being transformed into a commercial center and the lower section, also known as Kato Paphos, contains the hotels, archeological points and taverns. In the recent years, a huge amount of money has been poured into the lower section of the city to upgrade the hotels, restaurants, bars and change the look of the coastal strip. Paphos fences a fishing harbor, which is filled with taverns and cafes.

Climate

The city enjoys mild winters and sunny summers and snowfall occurs during the month of January. It is during this period only, when one can enjoy skiing. Summers however are meant for Pedalo hire and Jet skiing. The best weather is from March to May and September to November.

Preferred Place For Morning Walkers

The most significant fact about this city is that it has able to maintain the scenic beauty of olive trees and groves and has not allowed spoiling the look. It is because of this reason why paphos is the most preferred place for morning walkers and naturalists.

Culture

Since as per Greek mythology, Aphrodite was born in this place, the city of Paphos is surrounded by centre of worship and temple. The traditional culture has been established around the mythology of Greece, which has in turn influenced the heritage of architecture and drama. Many cultural and colorful festivals are held round the year.

Festivals

Paphos is basically a city of festivals. The series of festivals, which engulf the tradition of the city, are unending. The Anthestiria Festival, which takes place in the month of March, leads us to celebrate the rebirth of nature and spring. During this period, you can only see flowers and flowers. Then comes the Flood Festival, which is celebrated in the coastal areas. To add to the heritage are the Roman mosaics, Kings’ Tombs and Neofytos Monastry.

Transport

Since Paphos is a small city, bicycles form the main mode of transportation within the city. They are followed by buses, which operate both in and outside the city, and connect it to the adjoining ones. Cabs and hired executive cars are available, but at a higher cost. However, train service is not so prominent. The city however flaunts a big and nice domestic airport which act as the hub of all domestic airlines.
