Nicosia is the capital of the country of Cyprus, being located in the center of the island, on the river Pedieos. Besides its role as the seat of the government and an important business point, Nicosia is also a popular place for shopping, restaurants and entertainment areas, at the same time, bearing traces of its agitated but glorious past.

Once you get to the amazing city of Nicosia, you should definitely begin your journey through Nicosia Sights from downtown, where the Freedom Square is located. Right from here Ledra Street will lead your paces to the most beautiful part of the city, with unique boutiques, cafes and picturesque streets. It is also in this area that you will get the chance to visit the Venetian Wall, a historical reminiscence of the many conquerors that passed by these landscapes. This wall used to have three gates, but now all of them are playing different roles, from cultural centers to administration offices.
The Palace of the Archbishop can be found in the square with the same name. Here you can admire the beautiful Venetian style, built in 1956. Right next to it, you will find the Gothic Saint John cathedral with an amazing architecture.
Nicosia is also popular for the numerous museums, such as: the Byzantine Museum, located in the Archbishop Palace, Leventis Municipal Museum, the only historical museum in the capital, the Folk Art Museum, National Struggle Museum and Cyprus Ethnological Museum.

If you arrive in Nicosia at the end of May, you cannot possibly miss the Cyprus International Fair. It is the largest trade show in the country, as millions of companies from all over the country attend this event in order to exhibit their products and promote their services. This is a great opportunity for you to buy some cheap and interesting gifts for the dear ones.
If you choose to visit the capital at the end of October, then you will be witness to Cyprus Independence Day, when this amazing country gained its autonomy from the British domination.
