Nicosia, Nightlife – Dining Out

Besides the large variety of restaurants from all over the world, Nicosia also offers you many traditional restaurants such as: Ano Kato Restaurant, Kings Aphrodite's Restaurant, Nissiotis Restaurant, Pyrkos Tavern etc. Here you can enjoy the tasty Cypriot cuisine, which is very healthy and nutritious and consists of many natural products. The meals are usually cooked in olive oil and the main ingredients are: chicken, fish, lamb, yogurts, fruits, cheese and many different spices such as: garlic, pepper, oregano and cinnamon. Due to the appropriate climate, the fruits and vegetables are always fresh, Nicosia being famous for its citrus gardens that can be enjoyed almost all year long. If you ask any Cypriot about what you should first try when trying a traditional dish from his or her country, he or she will most certainly tell you about the popular “meze”, a dish in which the chief will decide by himself what to serve you with. You should also keep in mind that the traditional cuisine is closely related with the Greek and the Turkish one, due to the close relationship between these countries. Thus, in the North of the country, the meals are mostly influenced by the Turkish cuisine, whereas in Nicosia, the predominant flavor is the Greek one.
